Meet Tilly Norwood, the AI Actor Sending Hollywood Into a Frenzy

The star is being touted as “the next Scarlett Johansson” despite not being real.

She is being called the next Scarlett Johansson and is already attracting multiple Hollywood talent agents without having a single acting credit to her name. So what’s the deal with Tilly Norwood? She’s an AI-generated actor.

Created by Xicoia, an AI talent studio founded by actor and producer Eline Van der Velden, Norwood is the tech company’s first talent and was part of the emerging technology panel Zurich Summit. Though Norwood has yet to prove herself on the silver screen,  she is already forcing the industry to have the difficult discussion it’s long been trying to avoid.

“We want Tilly to be the next Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman, that’s the aim of what we’re doing,” Van der Velden shared in a statement to Broadcast International. “People are realizing that their creativity doesn’t need to be boxed in by a budget – there are no constraints creatively and that’s why AI can really be a positive. It’s just about changing people’s viewpoint.”

Van der Velden believes that industry attitudes to AI are rapidly changing, with studios becoming much more willing to adopt new technologies, especially after a year of major strikes hit Hollywood. Others are increasingly concerned about the imminent threats of AI for writers and actors alike. Actor Melissa Barrera is one such celeb who has openly voiced her outrage and called for a boycott of any talent agencies that decide to sign AI talents. Ultimately, the question remains: can AI can really replace human creativity, labor and emotion?
