Florals for Spring are groundbreaking when Susan Fang is involved. The London-based Chinese designer partnered up once again with Melissa for a footwear collection that channels an ethereal nature-inspired vision. The result is a sculptural piece of wearable art.
Romance is at the core of Susan Fang’s design approach, with florals infused throughout in 3D motifs and soft elements that transform Melissa’s signature styles into contemporary kicks. Almost otherworldly, this is one for the fairy-core girlies.
The collaboration features three standout styles: the Luna Bloom, a feminine ballet flat with floral detailing, the Possession Platform Sakura, a reinterpretation of the classic Possession silhouette elevated with sculptural sakura accents and finally, the Daphnis Ballerina, an elegant flat that captures Susan Fang’s signature femininity.
Fang shared, “I have always admired Melissa for their ability to turn shoes into dreams.” Adding, “For this collection, I worked closely with my husband Orelio de Jonghe, an industrial designer, to push what was possible and create the most surreal shoe we could imagine, something that could only exist through Melissa’s extraordinary technology.” The flower shoe blossoms all around the foot in a symbol of fortune and love for whoever wears it.
The pair explored new techniques to create a magical gradient that transitions from opaque to clear, almost as delicate as glass. The pieces are brought to life by a pastel palette that mirrors this delicate, dreamlike shoe. Offered in four colorways, the shoes are made for you to express yourself and channel your most ethereal self.
