Butter Yellow Is Set To Be the Color of the Summer, Here's Why

From Jacquemus to LOEWE, the seasonal hue is luxury-approved.

Every season, there are those few colors that pop up again and again, on fashion week runways, on all the Instagram it-girls and inevitably: our sponsored ads. During the Fall/Winter 2023 season, it was shades like peach fuzz and bright red that dominated our feeds and for Spring/Summer 2024 — there’s a new hue in town.

Butter yellow is the latest color set to steal the limelight, evidenced by fashion week collections from Jacquemus, Bottega Veneta, LOEWE and Paloma Wool — to name a few. So far, it’s arrived in full monochromatic looks mixed and matched with different shades of beige, off-white and lemon, plus worn as a pop of color through accessories and footwear.

Speaking about the shift towards the subtle hue, Depop explains: “After red’s domination as the color of the moment, we see softer colors returning as we settle into the summer, with yellow being the perfect shade for holidays, summer events and festivals. Still bright enough to draw attention, yet soft enough to be wearable, butter yellow evokes a cheerfulness and a carefree attitude that goes hand in hand with the summer season.”

Alongside the aforementioned showcases, Depop cites designers like Collina Strada, Philip Lim and Zimmerman as contributors to the trend, plus celebs like Sabrina Carpenter, Aubrey Plaza and FKA twigs.

Scroll down for some of the biggest butter-yellow moments in fashion so far, and stay tuned for more as they come.
