Bottega Veneta Goes Globetrotting for SS24

A celebration of international craft including travel trinkets, flags of imaginary places and intrecciato duffles.

Matthieu Blazy‘s Bottega Veneta Spring/Summer 2024 showcase transported viewers to an evocative destination where clothes live without borders. Traveling physically and metaphorically at Milan Fashion Week, the collection focused on craft in motion and the personal joy of dressing for your journey. The creative director shares in the show notes: “There is a need to reconnect to a primal world of animals, minerals, and plants. It’s like collecting seashells – beautiful, meaningful or meaningless. It’s linked to the beauty of small marvels and natural wonders.”

WHERE: Before the showcase, guests were given a leather compass watch as a nod to the journey to come. On the outskirts of Milan, showgoers joined the Bottega Veneta team in a large warehouse reminiscent of a marine factory. The tile floors were painted to embody an abstract map filled with fish, penguins and ice caps.

WHO: The show was attended by global talent including DJ producer Peggy Gou, Erykah Badu, Julianne Moore and a collection of The White Lotus cast.

SEE: From city dweller to seaside local, the brand was personified through rustic, organic and transformative tailoring. Leather maps, ropes and tropical raffia were used to examine international dressing from a point of motion and distinction. The standout pieces from the collection were two iterations of a woven dress that blurred the line between dandelion and sea urchin. Billowing and over-sized pom poms were placed over a large fishing net silhouette which gave the feeling of strolling through an imaginary beachside.

TOUCH: Bottega Veneta’s craftsmanship was on full display with patchwork-style knitwear and fringed trench coats. Newspapers and flags were also showcased to emphasize a journey into unknown worlds. Of course, the brands intrecciato braiding was incorporated again this season in the form of clutch, travel and duffle bags.

HEAR: Guests could hear a natural soundscape mixed with a deep animalistic beat. In the finale, a voice pierced the music and proclaimed: “Let’s go somewhere.”

TASTE: Trends to watch from the SS24 show include leather ties, over-sized bags and woven sandals. In terms of tailoring, keep an eye on double layered trousers, as the brand showcased unbuttoned layers of pants in various hues – perfect for jet setting.
