Have You Seen the Ultra-Chunky Sole on These Axel Arigato x CAT Sneakers?
The bigger, the better.
Following on from its transparent collaboration with Samsung, Swedish brand Axel Arigato has teamed up with CAT Footwear for a line of ultra-chunky sneakers. For those who are unfamiliar, CAT is most well known for its specialist workwear, and these kicks combine those practical and technical elements within a trend-led lifestyle shoe.
Dubbed the Excelsior, these sneakers arrive in three colorways – white, red and yellow. They feature Axel Arigato’s trademark sleek construction, with the upper comprised of panels of premium leather, suede and mesh. Hiking cord laces and pull tabs add to the outdoorsy look, which is contrasted by the chic golden Arigato branding on the lateral side. CAT’s iconic logo is embossed subtly upon the tongue but the real standout detail is the oversized, bulky midsole that’s more than just a nod to the current dad sneaker trend. The sole design is actually taken from CAT’s Intruder shoe that launched in 1996, which was created to be worn on broken, uneven ground and provided traction, support and protection for people working in challenging outdoor environments. Discussing the partnership, Axel Arigato creative director and co-founder Max Svärdh shared:
“Axel Arigato has reworked the archived silhouette by offering a contemporary twist on the industrial silhouette. With CAT Footwear being one of the most recognizable industrial brands in the world. Its an unlikely pairing which makes it interesting for us.”
