Frankie Collective Reworks Nike Windbreakers into an Air Max 98-Inspired Flight Suit
Styled with the matching “Gundam” sneakers.
2018 marks the 20th anniversary of Nike‘s Air Max 98 silhouette. For those who’ve been keeping up with the latest sneaker news, you’ll probably know that Swoosh has brought back the iconic OG “Gundam” colorway of the shoe earlier this year. Officially dubbed “Seismic Velocity,” the retro runner was so popular among sneakerheads everywhere that it sold out almost instantly when it dropped back in February. The fashionable shoe is sure to become one of this year’s hottest kicks — yes, we’re calling it.
As a nod to the beloved sneaker, we have linked up with Nike Toronto and Frankie Collective for a special Air Max Day 2018 editorial. Best known for its unique, reworked vintage designs, the Vancouver-based label has dreamed up a super sleek flight suit inspired by the highly coveted Air Max 98 style. Paying homage to the “White/University Red/Royal Blue” hues of the low-top trainer, Frankie Collective creative director Sara Gourlay has transformed Nike windbreakers in the same colors into some one-of-a-kind coveralls. It is a major throwback to the ’80s, yet the style is completely relevant to today’s streetwear trend. Browse the gallery above to see it for yourself.
