Rina Sawayama's "Ordinary Superstar" Video Is Filled With Glitzy Glamor
Highlighting Tokyo’s glamorous fashion of the past.
Rina Sawayama‘s debut EP, RINA, dropped last year with “Ordinary Superstar” as the first track. Now, the artist has officially released a music video for the song directed by Can Evgin. The main centerpiece of the visual are the immaculate, over-the-top looks styled by Nicola Formichetti.
The video takes a deep dive into the world of Tokyo club culture in the ’70s and ’80s. The theme comes to life through the elaborate pieces worn by Sawayama and her stylish backup dancers. In a post on Instagram, Formichetti shared the looks were dreamed up from inspiration pulled directly from the Takarazuka all-female musical theater troupe. Each scene in the visual showcases the innate beauty within Japanese culture.
