Damien Hirst's Skulls, Butterflies and Dots Are Featured on Classic Vans Sneakers
The Sk8-Hi and Slip-On get a makeover courtesy of the provocative artist.
Legendary artist Damien Hirst has teamed up with Vans to release a collection of sneakers in partnership with Palms Casino Resort. The multimedia artist, part of the Britart cohort that dominated the scene in ’90s, applies his popular motifs — including skulls, butterflies and colorful dots — to classic Vans sneakers including the Sk8-Hi and the Slip-On. The six-piece collection, continues Hirst’s ongoing relationship with Palms Casino Resort: the artist previously created a suite and bar for the Vegas attraction.
The Sk8-Hi comes in white and black colorways and is printed with dots from Hirst’s Spot paintings, butterflies inspired by his kaleidoscopic Butterflies series and multicolor skulls, an ongoing motif in the artist’s work, most notably For The Love of God, a diamond-encrusted skull that sold for $100 million USD in 2007. The Slip-On comes in the same colorways and features the same graphics, save for the dotted style — the right shoe sports Vans’ classic checker pattern while the left is covered in dots.
The Damien Hirst x Palms x Vans collection will release on December 6 exclusively at Vault by Vans in New York and at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
