The iconic designers pay homage to former South African president, Nelson Mandela.
Dior‘s Resort 2020 collection was a whimsical presentation hosted in Marrakech by creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri. Prior to the grand showcase that featured a star-studded audience, Chiuri invited famed Ivory Coast designer Pathé Ouédraogo to collaborate with her on an exclusive shirt. Also known as Pathé’O, he is well known for designing shirts for the former South African president Nelson Mandela. The designer’s creations are handmade at his African atelier and feature bright motifs and bold prints that exemplify African culture.
In an exclusive video, Chiuri is seen at Pathé’O’s atelier where his popular pieces are created. While there she tours the space and later appears alongside the designer for a model fitting. The stunning collaborative shirt is shown towards the end of the clip. Detailing includes a mostly blue and gray design throughout paired with an illustration of Mandela on the back.
The dreamy collection featured an assortment of pattern-heavy tops, trousers and robes. Notable pieces in the line also include newly designed Saddle Bags and Book Totes. According to Vogue, additional pieces were created in collaboration with African American artist Mickalene Thomas and Jamaican-British designer Grace Wales Bonner.
