The 2019 Met Gala follows the Metropolitan Museum of Art‘s “Camp: Notes of Fashion” exhibition theme. But before the celebrations start, we were granted an early look inside the expertly curated display.
The Costume Institute’s Spring 2019 exhibition features more than 250 objects from the seventeenth century to now. The pieces explore the origins of camp’s dramatic aesthetic. Spotted in the official imagery are designs by the following fashion houses: Maison Margiela, Gucci, Balenciaga and Chanel to name a few. Lavish gowns, whimsical accessories and outlandish separates, are a part of the historic display. According to the museum’s website, Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay, “Notes on Camp” is the framework for the exhibition.
The exhibit is scheduled to run from May 9 until September 8 at The Met. Tickets are available online for $25 USD or free, with museum exhibition. While you’re there, don’t forget to stop by the museum’s gift shop to purchase pieces from the new “Camp” collection.
