Take A Closer Look at Nike's "BETRUE" Pride Month 2019 Collection

Created in collaboration with Gilbert Baker Estate.

In honor of Pride Month, Nike has recently unveiled its “BETRUE” 2019 collection featuring various Swoosh silhouettes in rainbow-hued makeup. The five-piece range is created in partnership with Gilbert Baker Estate and pays tribute to Baker, the artist and LGBTQIA+ rights activist who designed the now-iconic rainbow flag back in 1978.

Ahead of the launch of the footwear collection, we’ve got our hands on select styles including the Air Max 720, the Air Tailwind 79, the Zoom Pegasus Turbo and the Air Max 90 for a closer inspection.

A highlight from this year’s “BETRUE” lineup, the Air Max 720 is covered in a rainbow gradient of colors from the toe box to the heel. The runner sits atop a clear sole unit which features Baker’s signature on it.

The Air Tailwind 79 is designed with a deconstructed mesh upper with hints of pastel pink and baby blue. The rainbow motif can be found embroidered on the logo heel tab.

Then there’s the Zoom Pegasus Turbo, made with a breathable, dark navy upper that’s accented by sparkly, color-shifting eyestays. The eight-colored rainbow stripe is placed on top of the tongue and extends to the toe box.

The classic Air Max 90 silhouette receives a multi-color treatment, with the eight different shades of the Pride flag featured across the design in the form of panels, details on the sole unit and heel counter. On the lateral, you’ll also find eight embroidered Swooshes, with threads matching each of the colors of the rainbow flag.

Scroll through the gallery above to see the Nike “BETRUE” 2019 collection. The Air Max 720 ($190 USD) and Air Tailwind 79 ($100 USD) will become available on June 8 on the SNKRS app, while the Air Max 90 ($130 USD) will arrive on the platform on June 15. The Zoom Pegasus Turbo will reportedly release on July 14.
