Artist Gyu Han Lee Transforms Nike Boxes Into Furniture
Now on view in a new exhibition in Seoul.
Seoul-based artist Gyu Han Lee merges the worlds of interior design and footwear in his new exhibition, “The Pattern Is the Pattern.” Housed at Gallery Document in Seoul, the presentation showcases a series of functional furniture made out of cardboard Nike shoe boxes.
According to a press release by Lee, the exhibition’s title is a reference to Netflix series Maniac and represents, “the moment when the fragments of everyday life that seemed meaningless are repeated and constitute a pattern of life.” Indeed Nike’s iconic Swoosh serves as a repetitive thread throughout the show, appearing on orange and red shoe boxes fashioned into couches, coffee tables, shelving units and armchairs.
