This IKEA Scented Candle Is Our Editor’s New Favorite Product
The furniture store partners with Byredo’s Ben Gorham on a must-have collaboration.
When I first heard that IKEA would be partnering with Ben Gorham on a home fragrance collection a few years ago, like many fans of Byredo, I was pleasantly surprised and excited. As much as I enjoyed — and still love — the luxurious scents and the very chic packaging of the perfumery’s candles, the idea of a more budget-friendly range of products designed by Gorham was enticing.
Fast forward to this fall, the OSYNLIG collection is officially launched. Comprised of 13 scented candles, the limited-edition collaboration between Gorham and the Swedish furniture company promises to “elevate the experience of being at home,” a sentiment that certainly resonates with many people today.
As expected, the hotly anticipated collection is flying off the shelves following its release earlier this month. For those still not convinced, read my review of this week’s “Editor’s Pick” to learn why OSYNLIG is one of the best collaborations of the year.
WHAT IS IT: IKEA OSYNLIG Scented Candle in Tobacco & Honey
WHY IT’S WORTH THE HYPE: Lockdown 2.0 has only seemed to further fuel my obsession with scented candles. When I saw that the OSYNLIG series comes in three different sizes, without hesitation, I immediately added the largest ones to my cart. Available at $25 USD each, these four-wick candles — with an approximate burning time of 45 hours — are actually affordable, allowing shoppers like myself who’d typically only buy small pots of candles to enjoy something a bit different.
Accessible pricing aside, what I also love about the collaboration is its beautifully designed reusable packaging. Each scented candle arrives in a ceramic vessel and a matching lid. When the candle has finished burning, the container can be repurposed for storage or decoration — talk about simple, functional design.
Now, perhaps we should finally discuss the most important element of the collection: the scents. Compared to the rich woodiness of the Bibliothèque and Chai candles of Gorham’s own brand, overall, his IKEA range features a much lighter, sweeter aroma. My favorite of the bunch would have to be Tobacco & Honey, a fall-appropriate fragrance that instantly fills the air with a warm, inviting fragrance. If you’re thinking of purchasing the candle, just know that it smells more sweet than it is smoky.
WHERE YOU CAN FIND IT: The four-wick OSYNLIG candle is available at IKEA for $25 USD. Smaller versions of the home fragrance are priced between $5 and $10 USD.
