Nike Unveils Sustainable Pieces for Team USA's "Medal Stand" Collection
Featuring the iconic Windrunner jacket and Vapormax shoes.
Nike has unveiled a vast range of collaborations and uniforms for the upcoming summer season at its recent Future Sport Forum, particularly for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Among the highly anticipated lineups is the eco-friendly “Medal Stand” collection, which is what Team USA will be wearing for its medal ceremonies.
Taking inspiration from the medals which are made with recycled materials, the iconic Windrunner jacket arrives with 100 percent reused polyester while the pants are made with 100 percent recycled nylon. Taking design details from the Japanese kimono, the outerwear option is knit to shape for minimal waste. The national team’s logo, drawcord tips and Swoosh branding are crafted with recycled Nike Grind rubber.
Along with the jacket and pants, medalists will be sporting a new Vapormax design made with 75 percent repurposed manufacturing waste. Arriving in the signature Flyknit upper with a mix of colors and materials inspired by landfills seen from a distance, the shoes are engineered to produce minimal waste.
