Though the coronavirus pandemic has put a temporary hold on in-person meet-ups, online dating is still going strong — in fact, popular dating app Hinge just launched a new feature, “Date from Home,” allowing users to indicate whether they’d like to move conversations from the app to a video call outside of the platform. Once both matches agree to a virtual call, Hinge lets them know they’re on the same page and ready for a “date.”
Fellow dating apps The League and Tinder have also expanded their features to facilitate digital connection. Last year, The League launched League Live, a video call integration, and is now introducing virtual speed dating events in 13 cities. Tinder has made its Passport feature, which allows users to swipe on potential matches around the world, free for the time being.
