IKEA to Drop LGBTQ+ Rainbow Flag-Inspired FRAKTA Bag for Pride Month
100% of the profits from the sale will be donated to LGBTQ+ charities.
In celebration of International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (May 17) and Pride Month (June), IKEA is set to release its iconic FRAKTA bag in a rainbow colorway. Peter Jelkeby, Country Retail Manager and Chief Sustainability Officer of IKEA UK and Ireland said in a press release:
“At IKEA, our culture is centered on the value of togetherness. We believe equality is a human right and that everyone deserves a home where they can be themselves. We know that lockdown will disproportionately affect the LGBTQ+ community. With many isolated from their support networks, and with Pride celebrations postponed, it has never been more important to show our support and encourage everyone to provide a safe and welcoming space for members of the LGBTQ+ community and ‘be someone’s home.’”
Now renamed as the STORSTOMMA silhouette, the limited-edition piece aims to encourage people to stand up against discrimination towards the LGBTQ+ community and promote equal rights. One hundred percent of the profits from the sale will be donated to local LGBTQ+ initiatives, charities and causes chosen by IKEA stores across the UK and Ireland.
The bag retails for £1.50 GBP (approximately $1.83 USD) and will be available to purchase via IKEA’s website on May 15.
