HBO Max Documentary 'On The Record' Helps Black Survivors of Sexual Assault Tell Their Stories
Women in the music industry come forward.
Streaming platform HBO Max recently debuted an important new documentary, On The Record, highlighting the unique challenges Black women face when deciding whether and how to share their stories of sexual assault.
The film centers on music executive Drew Dixon, one of many women to speak out about experiences of harassment and assault at the hands of Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons. “If White women are not believed, what do you think is happening to Black women in America when we come forward?” one woman featured in the film posits. Dixon’s accounts are presented alongside those of additional survivors including journalist Sil Lai Abrams and Sheri Sher, founder of the first all-female rap group Mercedes Ladies.
