Migos Files Malpractice Lawsuit Against Attorney

The hip-hop trio seeks millions of dollars in damages and restitution.

Quavious “Quavo” Marshall, Kiari “Offset” Cephus and Kirsnick “Takeoff” Ball of rap trio Migos have filed a lawsuit against their longtime attorney, Damien Granderson. According to a report by Rolling Stone, the musicians are suing Granderson, his current law firm (Granderson Des Rochers, LLP) and his former law firm (Davis Shapiro Lewit Grabel & Leven, LLP) for professional malpractice, seeking “millions of dollars” in damages and restitution.

The lawsuit alleges that the lawyer, whose client list includes J. Cole and A$AP Rocky, “abused his position of trust” and cheated Migos out of millions of dollars. The complaint cites Granderson’s representation of Quality Control Music, the record label Migos signed with in 2013, as an “incurable conflict of interest.” According to the suit, the attorney oversaw, “one-sided deals that benefited Granderson and Granderson’s higher priority client, Quality Control Music (‘QCM’)” at the group’s expense.

QCM CEO Pierre Thomas addressed the lawsuit in an Instagram post that appears to have been deleted. “It is unfortunate that the same people that we have worked hard for, provided opportunities for, and championed for are now alleging that we have participated in any kind of immoral or unfair business practices or took advantage of them and their careers,” he wrote, as quoted by Rolling Stone. “We have always practiced honest business and complete transparency from the beginning when we started Quality Control Music.”
