Rihanna Opens up About Her Next Album, ‘R9'
The pop star reveals whether her pregnancy will delay her upcoming album.
On May 5, 2025, Rihanna revealed her baby bump ahead of the MET Gala. Naturally, everyone wants to know if or when her next album, R9, will be released.
In 2020, she shared that new music was coming sooner than her fanbase expected. ”Music is still my first love, so I can’t wait to put something out that I’m really proud of and excited about. It is probably gonna be sooner than my fans think, but I’m just gonna leave that alone,” she said. Yet, five years later, they’re still on hold.
On the MET steps, ET asked how the pop star was enjoying her third pregnancy. “I’m good, I’m shockingly feeling okay and not too overwhelmed at the moment,” she said. As she revealed her baby bump, her fanbase flocked to her Instagram, questioning the baby’s gender and when R9 was delayed.
“Is this putting R9 on pause even longer? Because you were in production,” the reporter continued. Rihanna replied, “No,” she sang. “Maybe a few videos, but I could still sing.”
With multiple businesses and now three babies, Rihanna’s pop stardom is one iconic hat of many. “I have to pay attention to everything and stay on top of everything,” she told ET previously. “I’m just that way, and music sometimes takes a hit naturally because these other things are crucial in terms of timelines and production, and there’s so much that people will never understand that goes on behind the scenes.” In another interview with Entertainment Tonight, the singer added that her fans “won’t be disappointed” when R9 drops. “It’s going to be worth it,” she hinted.
