Take a Closer Look at Shea Couleé's 'Rupaul's Drag Race All Stars' Finale Dress
Fashioned after her mother’s prom dress.
On July 24, Rupaul’s Drag Race All Stars crowned its season five winner: Shea Couleé. Originally a contestant — and final three competitor — on Rupaul’s Drag Race season nine, Coulée returned to All Stars and snatched the grand prize with her fashion, comedy and lip-syncing skills.
As expected, Coulée delivered a finale look that set social media abuzz. The winning drag queen donned a voluminous pink gown, designed and executed by Viktor Luna and Beau Toombs, inspired by her mother’s prom dress. Featuring dramatic draping, off-the-shoulder puffed sleeves and a giant bow at the back, the dress was, as Coulée said, a “bubblegum Balenciaga fantasy.” Touching on the larger inspiration of her work, Couleé added that her drag “in its purest form is a love letter to Black women.”
