Chi Chi DeVayne From 'RuPaul’s Drag Race' Dies at 34
The drag queen icon was hospitalized last week with pneumonia.
Chi Chi DeVayne, also known as Zavion Michael Davenport, has died at the age of 34 after battling multiple health issues. According to Variety, the RuPaul’s Drag Race star was admitted into the hospital last week due to pneumonia.
Back in July, DeVayne was also hospitalized “for suspected kidney failure” and was diagnosed with a disease called scleroderma a few years ago, which is “a condition in which the body’s immune system attacks organs, blood vessels and tissues.” RuPaul paid his respects to the iconic drag queen on Twitter and said:
“I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of Chi Chi DeVayne. I am so grateful that we got to experience her kind and beautiful soul. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. May her generous and loving spirit shine down on us all. On behalf of VH1, World of Wonder and the cast and crew of RuPaul’s Drag Race, I extend my deepest sympathy — from our family to hers.”
Additionally, DeVayne’s mother released a statement on behalf of the entire family via his Instagram account: “It is with tremendous sorrow that my family and I announce the passing of my beloved son, Zavion Michael Davenport, the world-renowned ‘Chi Chi Devayne’ … His final words to his family and fans, ‘Never Give Up!’”
Our deepest condolences are with everyone affected by the death.
