Avril Lavigne Gives Off Y2K Pop-Punk Vibes With New Single "Bite Me"
Marking her debut with Travis Barker’s label.
Avril Lavigne returns to her early pop-punk era days with her new single, “Bite Me.”
In typical Avril Lavigne fashion, she pours her heart out with empowering lyrics about a breakup. “Hey you, you should’ve known better, better to mess with someonе like me,” the Canadian musician sings in the chorus. “Hey you, forеver and ever you’re gonna wish I was your wifey/ Should’ve held on, should’ve treated me right/ I gave you one chance, you don’t get it twice/ Hey you, and we’ll be together never, so baby, you can bite me.”
This marks Lavigne’s first music release since she dropped her sixth studio album, Head Above Water, in 2019. Since then, she has signed with Travis Barker‘s record label, DTA Records, which she announced recently.
“I’ve always admired Travis and his work,” Lavigne said about the drummer-slash-producer in a press release. “The first time we worked together was 15 years ago on my album The Best Damn Thing, and I have really enjoyed watching him develop into the producer that he is today.”
The singer-songwriter went on to explain why teaming up with Barker was the right move. “We spent a lot of time writing songs and working on this record together, and signing to his record label, DTA, felt like the perfect home for me and my new music,” she added. “Travis understands my vision as a musician, my creative process as an artist and my goals at this stage of my career. I am excited to be dropping ‘Bite Me.’ It’s an anthem about knowing your worth, what you deserve and not giving someone a second chance who doesn’t deserve you.”
