KARA Reimagines Your Childhood Lunch Bag With Sparkly Rhinestones
The clutch is an ode to NYC-based chef and author Angela Dimayuga’s first cookbook.
In celebration of Angela Dimayuga‘s first cookbook, Filipinx: Heritage Recipes from the Diaspora, KARA has teamed up with the New York City-based chef, author and multidisciplinary artist to create a new bag.
Based on Dimayuga’s upbringing in the Bay Area as a first-generation Asian-American, the silhouette arrives in the form of a clutch covered in shiny rhinestones and lined with satin. Influenced by the creative’s brown sack lunches her mom used to pack her as a child, the design features elements of a lunch bag while still maintaining its chic look.
“For me, a lunch bag is so related to my upbringing as a Filipino-American and my parents wanting me to feel American. They would give me a brown bag lunch every day — filling it with American snacks like Capri Sun, Doritos, sometimes a sandwich, because that’s what the other Americans were having and that was them exploring luxury,” Dimayuga shares. “And of course, at certain times I would have rice and spam in my lunch bag too, but I know that they found a particular joy in giving me a brown bag lunch.”
Priced at $395 USD, the Crystal Mesh Lunch Bag is now available to shop via KARA’s website. The matching Crystal Mesh Apron is available for pre-order and will ship in December.
