Valentino Goes Black-and-White for Fall/Winter 2021
Playing with layering and experimenting with materials.
For Valentino, it was back to basics for the Fall/Winter 2021 season. Debuting a collection that was almost exclusively black-and-white, the range focused on layering as well as mixing and matching materials and silhouettes in order to create exciting looks.
Playing with the element of suiting and the concept of uniform, the Valentino collection takes the classic white shirt and reinvents it through layering with everything from a cut-out turtleneck to a wool coat. The FW21 range also sees Valentino’s signature craftsmanship through sheer chiffon dresses with delicate embroidery, crochet and knit detailing as well as in its tailoring. The looks feel androgynous but also feminine, with the collection showcasing both menswear and womenswear, but playing with the usage of garments like blazers and suit trousers. The collection wraps with opulent gold from head-to-toe, covering knitwear as well as leather jackets, and finally finishes with a gorgeous white full-length crochet dress.
It is almost like Valentino has read our minds when it comes to post-pandemic fashion. The black-and-white color palette is wearable yet exciting, and translates the label’s unique and luxury DNA through the experimental layering and new handbag silhouettes – also arriving in black leather.
