Research States American Honey Contains Traces of Radioactivity
Due to nuclear bomb tests conducted in the ’50s and ’70s in the United States.
A majority of honey in the United States features properties of radioactivity, which could be harmful to the body if consumed in large amounts. According to a research paper by Nature Communications, this was caused by nuclear tests conducted in the ’50s and ’70s throughout the country.
Based on samples from hives and soil segments across the eastern U.S., researchers detected radioactive isotope cesium-137 in 68 of 122 distinct honey samples. Findings also state that cesium-137 is just one of the byproducts that was produced during the nuclear division of uranium-235 and other dividable isotopes found in nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons.
