Centre Pompidou Launches “Women in Abstraction” Exhibition

Supporting and giving recognition to female artists around the globe.

For its latest exhibition, Paris‘ iconic Centre Pompidou is launching a new “Women in Abstraction” art exhibition, featuring works by female artists around the globe.

The exhibition will run starting May 19, and will end on Augut 23, and takes on the history of abstractions from its origins to the 1980s, and features contributions from 110 female artists. “The exhibition shows the decisive turning points that marked the history of Abstraction and questions its aesthetic canons without redefining a new one. It also goes beyond the idea of a history of art conceived as a succession of purely pioneering practices. By giving “women artists” a new place in this history, the exhibition demonstrates its complexity and diversity,” states Centre Pompidou in its announcement.

The exhibition is also supported by luxury retailer Mytheresa, and CEO Michael Kliger said, “Empowering women is a mission truly close to our heart at Mytheresa and this exhibition shows the importance and impact at women’s art work and gives them the recognition they deserve within the Abstract movement on a global scale.”

You can now buy tickets for the exhibition online at the Centre Pompidou website, which also reopens on May 19th to coincide with the new exhibition.
