Acne Studios Partners With Grant Levy-Lucero for a Pop-Art Collaboration
Drawing on classic American iconography and hand-painted signage.
Acne Studios and artist Grant Levy-Lucero have teamed up once again, this time creating a Fall/Winter 2021 capsule collection that fuses American iconography with pop-art styles.
The native Californian, known for his painted ceramic pots that nod to both pop culture and antiquity, not only takes inspiration from classic, hand-painted signage, but also old flour sacks. The pieces feature playful motifs and bold printed slogans, such as “Enjoy Acne Studios” and “Fresh Pop Culture,” atop cracked prints and faded washes, emblematic of old-school American advertising. Apparel offerings include everything from T-shirts to hoodies and trousers, while available accessories see scarves, wool beanies, socks, a key ring, wallet and canvas handbags echoing the same iconic aesthetic.
Speaking about the collaboration, Levy-Lucero said, “I’m constantly drawn to absurdity and branding, which is where the start of the print collaboration came from — taking these things and making them more sincere or putting it into something more real. I like to think I’m adding to Acne Studios in some way and really proud to be able to contribute to any sort of vernacular that Acne Studios uses.”
