Here's How Celebrities Honored Modern American Fashion at the 2021 Met Gala
Some of the evening’s best dressed stars include Billie Eilish and Rihanna.
Celebrating the Costume Institute’s 75th anniversary, the theme of this year’s Met Gala, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” honors modern American fashion. Following the cancellation of the event last year due to COVID-19, A-list stars and influencers alike finally got to show off their best looks on the red carpet.
Billie Eilish, the evening’s co-host, donned a Marilyn-inspired, nude tulle dress by Oscar de la Renta with a dramatic train. The Happier Than Never artist also channeled her inner Monroe with retro curls. Fashionably late, Rihanna and her boyfriend A$AP Rocky attended the ball together in eye-catching fits. Rih stunned in a dramatic Balenciaga couture coat, while Rocky showed up in a giant quilt and a suit by ERL.
Unlike her previous Met Gala looks, Kim Kardashian opted for an unusual ensemble that’s also by Demna Gvasalia‘s Balenciaga. The fashion and beauty mogul turned heads in an all-black outfit featuring a T-shirt dress, a head mask and jersey boots. Lorde, who shone on the beige carpet wearing a jeweled crown, was dressed by Bode in a custom gown. Meanwhile, American politician and activist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made a political statement in a Brother Vellies creation. A message reads loudly, in red, on the back of her gown: “TAX THE RICH.”
