The 2020 Met Gala Has Been Officially Canceled
The Met plans to reopen for visitors this August.
Originally scheduled to take place on May 4, the 2020 Met Gala was postponed indefinitely back in March. Amid COVID-19, the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced on May 19 that the annual event has been officially canceled.
This year’s theme was supposed to be “About Time: Fashion and Duration” – the same name as the museum’s 150th-anniversary exhibit scheduled for this coming October. According to Vogue, the museum issued a statement saying that it decided to completely cancel this year’s large-scale cultural gathering “due to the global health crisis.” However, the art institution plans to reopen for visitors this coming August, but tours, talks, concerts and events will not be taking place for the rest of the year due to the city’s social distancing guidelines.
