When Zendaya commits to something, she goes all the way, and that’s the case for her upcoming movie Challengers. The actor plays a tennis player-turned-coach, which required her to be super fit. As a result, she spent three months training to prep for the role.
Luca Guadagnino, who directed the movie, was impressed with her dedication. “She’s wonderful,” he told Variety during the Academy Museum Gala. “I mean, wow. We edited the movie and we almost actually don’t use any of her double. She’s so good.”
He added, “They spent like three months working very hard. Everybody — technically, athletically.”
According to the outlet, the movie is described as a “sexy comedy.” In the film, Zendaya’s character, Tashi Donaldson, is stuck in a love triangle with her player-husband, Art Donaldson, (West Side Story‘s Mike Faist) and her ex, who is his former best friend (The Crown‘s Josh O’Connor).
A trailer for the Challengers has not been released yet, but that should be dropping in the coming months considering the film wrapped production in June.
Challengers is slated to hit theaters on August 11, 2023.
