Our Legacy WORK SHOP x Dr. Martens' 1461 Is Made of Deadstock Material
A continuation of the Swedish brand’s commitment to sustainability.
For its latest footwear collaboration, Dr. Martens has tapped Swedish brand Our Legacy — more specifically, the label’s WORK SHOP initiative launched in 2016 that breathes life into old garments through upcycling and recycling.
The duo has reworked the classic 1461 Derby shoe in two colorways, which are both made using offcuts of leather. The first iteration is kept minimal, arriving in all black. Our Legacy’s signature Yin Yang logo is subtly stamped onto the heel, while the shoe sits on a DMS sole. Meanwhile, a bright orange hue is applied to the second colorway using “Desert Oasis Suede.” The shoes are complete with tonal laces in orange.
The deadstock leather used in this collaboration comes from Chicago-based tannery Horween, which is known for its fine craftsmanship of nearly 100 years. The black 1461 shoe uses Chromexel leather from the factory, while the orange pair is constructed with leftover materials from Leeds-based tannery C. F. Stead.
