Anna Delvey Has No Desire to Watch Netflix Series 'Inventing Anna'
Actor Julia Garner respects her decision.
Rubbing shoulders with New York’s elite is something dreams, or Gossip Girl episodes, are made out of, but for Russian-born German scammer Anna Delvey, she made it her reality by gaining the trust of investors and billionaires, and then defrauding them out of their money.
The faux socialite’s exploits, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, are now the subject of a Shonda Rhimes-directed Netflix series, Inventing Anna, and while Sorokin teeters on the edge of self-obsession, she won’t be using her newfound freedom to watch the dramatic portrayal of her crimes.
In an open letter Sorokin wrote last month, she expresses, “Even if I were to pull some strings and make it happen, nothing about seeing a fictionalized version of myself in this criminal-insane-asylum setting sounds appealing to me. “I was hoping that by the time Inventing Anna came out, I would’ve moved on with my life. I imagined for the show to be a conclusion of sorts summing up and closing of a long chapter that had come to an end.”
Julia Garner who plays the conwoman does not take Sorokin’s choice personally, telling Entertainment Weekly in an interview, “I respect whatever Anna does in terms of whether she wants to watch the show or doesn’t want to watch the show.”
