Hunter Schafer Walks Runway for Rising Trans Designer, Gogo Graham

The ‘Euphoria’ actor dons an avant-garde look by the New York brand.

Euphoria star Hunter Schafer walked the runway for trans designer Gogo Graham earlier this week in New York. According to a press release, the emerging brand’s inspiration for the collection was the Studio Ghibli film Grave of the Fireflies, “drawing nuanced parallels between the ongoing pandemic and warfare itself.”

Graham, whose work usually focuses on elements of fantasy, experiments with new themes this season with a collection all about reality. The designer uses her artistry to reflect on what once was, pre-COVID-19 — the “back to normal” post-pandemic trope people seem to have given up on.

Graham pays homage to her Japanese ancestry by creating designs out of traditional yukatas. She also uses a corseted gown, as seen on Schafer, that defies the usual purpose of the garment. Instead of using corsets to cinch the waist, it is used to provide structure to the look. It also makes the wearer feel as if the look was made for them, in contrast to having to mold themselves into it.

The song “Home Sweet Home” from Grave of the Fireflies served as key inspiration for the designer, as “she developed pieces to become more wearable by nature while still maintaining a hallmarked etherealness,” the brand shares.

Schafer has been a true supporter of upcoming designers and has been using her impact to steer eyes in the right direction. In the past, she was seen happily repping rising designer Marshall Columbia on Instagram.
