Former Kardashian App Employee Claims She Struggled To Pay for Food and Gas
Jessica DeFino only earned $35,000 USD a year as an assistant editor.
Jessica DeFino, a former assistant editor on the Kardashian apps, has claimed that she was underpaid during her time at the company.
Responding to Kim Kardashian‘s infamous “get your f*cking ass up and work” line, DeFino said: “I did — and I could barely scrape by,” as per New York Post. “I was an editor on the Kardashian apps in 2015 in LA,” DeFino claimed on Twitter on March 9 after Kardashian’s career advice went viral. “I worked days nights and weekends, could only afford groceries from the 99 Cents Only Store, called out ‘sick’ more than once because I couldn’t put gas in my car to get to the office, and was reprimanded for freelancing on the side,” she added.
In her latest piece for Vice, DeFino dives deep into her time at the company and reveals that she was not the only one who was overworked and underpaid. “I was an assistant editor on the Kardashian Jenner Official Apps, and I didn’t make enough money to make it to work,” DeFino detailed, sharing that she only earned $35,000 USD a year. The former worker also revealed a traumatic experience when she could only afford to pay for $4 USD worth of gas, which wasn’t enough for her commute. “I panicked, slapped at the steering wheel, and screamed. And then I cried,” she wrote.
