You'll Finally Be Able To Edit Your Tweets on Twitter
Twitter Blue users will get early access to the new feature.
An edit button is finally coming to Twitter after 16 years of being present in the world of social media.
“Now that everyone is asking… yes, we’ve been working on an edit feature since last year!” the app‘s communications team tweeted. “No, we didn’t get the idea from a poll,” it added, referencing Elon Musk’s poll post on Monday asking the public, “Do you want an edit button?”
According to Jay Sullivan, the company’s head of consumer product, the team has been “exploring how to build an Edit feature in a safe manner since last year.” Twitter Blue users will get to test out the upcoming function first in the coming months, which will allow them to fix typos or mistakes in their existing tweets.
Sullivan has also stressed that “without things like time limits, controls, and transparency about what has been edited, Edit could be misused to alter the record of the public conversation.” He continued: “It will take time and we will be actively seeking input and adversarial thinking in advance of launching Edit. We will approach this feature with care and thoughtfulness and we will share updates as we go.”
On April 1, the app tweeted: “We are working on an edit button.” Eventually, users interpreted the post as an April Fool’s Joke. Little did they know that the company was serious.
Stay tuned as we wait for more updates on the new feature.
