Gucci To Reimburse Its Employees Who Need Access to Safe Abortions
Standing in solidarity with women and their reproductive rights.
Gucci has issued a statement in support of women’s reproductive rights.
Earlier this month, a Supreme Court document was leaked, stating that “judges favored overturning the ruling known as Roe v Wade which in 1973 established a woman’s right to an abortion,” as per BBC. Following the news, the fashion house announced it “remains steadfast in its belief that access to reproductive health care is a fundamental human right.” As a result, the brand “will now provide travel reimbursement to any U.S. employee who needs access to health care not available in their home state.” Additionally, through its nonprofit organization, Chime for Change, the label will “support partner organizations that enable access to reproductive health and protect human rights, especially for the most vulnerable.”
Gucci joins a lineup of other brands — Billie, Mother Denim, Mejuri and more — that stand in solidarity with the future of women’s reproductive rights in the United States. Levi Strauss & Co released a statement last week and said: “Given what is at stake, business leaders need to make their voices heard and act to protect the health and well-being of our employees.” Similar to Gucci, Levi’s employees have access to a reimbursement scheme “for healthcare-related travel expenses for services not available in their home state, including those related to reproductive health care and abortion.”
