Nike has opened a special exhibition in Hong Kong in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

Through the show titled “Nike at 50: A Genealogy of Progress,” the sportswear giant spotlights local athletes and its mission of bringing inspiration and motivation to them. Curated by the brand’s Hong Kong branch, the exhibit is divided into four zones illustrating Nike’s lineage.

At “Nike 50 Moments: Celebrate then, now and the future,” visitors are able to explore the past, present and future of Nike through audiovisual experiences featuring names like boxer Rex Tso, swimmer Stephanie Au and fencer Edgar Cheung. The “Moon Path: the Evolution of Marathon Innovation” section is centered around the Moon Shoe, which was released in 1972. “Feel the Allure of Air” highlights Nike Air, which was introduced in the late 1970s. The final section, “Move to Zero Lounge: discovering sustainable design practice,” focuses on Nike’s sustainable innovation with performance footwear designs on display.

In addition to these four zones, the exhibition features six local creatives and their takes on repurposing upcycled Nike manufacturing waste. Shoe boxes, fabric scraps and more are used to create artworks ranging from sculptures to installations. These pieces can be purchased individually with proceeds going towards Share For Good, a crowd donation platform by New World Development that supports those in need throughout COVID-19 recovery.

Take a look inside “Nike at 50: A Genealogy of Progress” open to the public at the K11 MUSEA mall in Hong Kong until June 11.
