Johnny Depp's Rep Denies Reports of Disney's $301 Million USD Deal

It was reported that Disney wanted the actor to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow.

UPDATE (June 30, 2022): After it was reported that Disney was in talks of offering Johnny Depp $301 million USD to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, the actor’s rep has denied the claims.

The rep told PEOPLE the rumors were “false.” It had previously been reported that the offer was Disney’s way of apologizing to the actor after he was dropped from the sixth installment of the franchise back in 2018. At the time, Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard had published an op-ed about sexual violence. Though she never mentioned Depp by name, the article was widely believed to be about him.

As a result, the former couple went to trial for a defamation lawsuit, which Depp ended up winning earlier this month.

ORIGINAL STORY (June 29, 2022): Johnny Depp could be reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Disney is reportedly interested in having the actor return and is willing to offer him a $301 million USD deal as a formal apology.

“Disney [is] very interested in patching up their relationship with Johnny Depp,” an insider told Pop Topic. “They reached out to the actor prior to his defamation trial against Amber Heard and asked whether he would be interested in returning for another Pirates film or two.”

The source continued, “I know corporate sent him a gift basket with a very heartfelt letter, but I’m unsure how it was received. But what I can tell you is that the studio has already penned up a draft for a film about Jack Sparrow — so they are very hopeful that Johnny will forgive them and return as his iconic character.”

In 2018, Disney dropped Depp from the sixth installment of the franchise — days after Heard’s op-ed was published in which she opened up about sexual violence without revealing a name. During the recent defamation trial against his ex-wife, Depp made it clear he was not interested in returning to the franchise.

“If Disney came to you with $300 million [USD] and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film? Correct?” Ben Rottenborn, Heard’s attorney, asked Depp. “That is true, Mr. Rottenborn,” Depp responded.
