Nicki Minaj To Receive the Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 MTV VMAs
Making her the second female rapper after Missy Elliott to achieve this.
Nicki Minaj is receiving recognition for her talent and achievements in a grand way. The rapper is being honored by MTV with a Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 VMAs.
“Nicki has broken barriers for women in hip-hop with her versatility and creative artistry,” said Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming and events, Paramount+. “She has shifted the music industry and cemented her status as a global superstar with her crossover appeal, genre-defying style and continuing to be unapologetically ‘Nicki’.”
Minaj will also be taking over the VMAs stage for the first time since 2018. The rapper, who’s a 17-time VMAs nominee and five-time VMAs winner, will release her new single, “Super Freaky Girl,” on August 12. While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, Minaj is rumored to perform the song at the awards show.
The VMAs will be airing live from Prudential Center on Sunday, August 28 at 8 p.m. EST.
