This season for beauty during New York Fashion Week, mid-’90s garage glam makeup appears to be the go-to for head makeup artists this year. Slicked-back hair, Bordeaux-colored lips, thin or perfectly tailored eyebrows and smudgy eyeliner have been galloping down runways all week.

For NYFW days two and three, brands like Jason Wu, Dion Lee, Marni and Luar displayed some variety of a ’90s look, focusing on the hairstyles, eyes or lips. However, hold on to your seats as we’re just in the thick of New York Fashion Week and we’re expecting to continue seeing nostalgic beauty trends appear more as the week progresses.

Keep scrolling on to see the glam makeup looks from NYFW SS23, days two and three.

Jason Wu

Jason Wu used his namesake line Jason Wu Beauty to create a modern smokey glitter eye inspired by the ’60s. Blue was the overall theme setting for the show. To add contrast, head makeup artist Diane Kendal opted to use a gorgeous yellow for a pop of color in the inner corners.

Dion Lee

Dion Lee’s models featured beauty looks from famed makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench‘s from her ISAMAYA Beauty collection. French used “Belt” and “Machine” as key shades from the INDUSTRIAL Color Pigments eyeshadow palette, putting them through an airbrush with offcut fabrics from the Dion Lee Collection to create the texture and insect-inspired effect.

Marni

Marni’s Spring/Summer 2023 show was full of unforgettable sunsets. Models featured ’90s slicked-back hair and spurts of colorful rainbow colors along their foreheads, opposite of the rainbow undereye trend we’ve been seeing.

Sandy Liang

Sandy Liang’s runway models featured fresh sun-kissed off-duty model looks with makeup provided by ILIA. Down the runway, we saw variations of slicked styles, braided plaits and oversized ’90s hair clips.

Luar

Luar’s Spring/Summer 2023 runway show paid homage to the gaudy underground styles of the LGBTQ nightlife culture. Down the runway were elegant ’90s pin-up corn dog buns with pasted curled baby hairs and fierce brows, all sculpted by MAC Cosmetics products.
