Naomi Campbell Closes Sarah Burton's Last Show for Alexander McQueen

One for the books.

Sarah Burton presented her last show for Alexander McQueen during Paris Fashion Week and unsurprisingly, it did not disappoint. Met with a standing ovation across the board, the emotionally-charged showcase offered a selection of house staples, updated by elevated design details, breath-taking embellishments and a newfound sense of freedom and liberation.

According to the show notes, ”This collection is inspired by female anatomy, Queen Elizabeth I, the blood red rose and Magdalena Abakanowicz, a transgressive and powerfully creative artist who refused ever to compromise her vision.” Burton continues to add, “the show is dedicated to the memory of Lee Alexander McQueen, whose wish was always to empower women, and to the passion, talent and loyalty of my team.”

Read on for Hypebae’s summary of Alexander McQueen SS24.

WHO: A number of notable guests attended Burton’s last show for McQueen, including Anna Wintour, Edward Enninful, Nina Garcia, Letitia Wright, Elle Fanning, Cate Blanchett and Yara Shahidi, alongside Kaia Gerber and Naomi Campbell walking the runway.

WHERE: Held in Le Carreau du Temple, the dynamic location offered a theatrical backdrop for the pivotal moment.

SEE: A luxurious color palette of black, blood red and gold defined McQueen’s SS24, featuring cut-out blazers and suits, sculptural gowns and sheer, bedazzled catsuits. New Armadillo knee-high and thigh-high boots made their debut, alongside pointed Thorn Mules and Twisted Sandals. Chunky jewelery elevated each look, arriving as gold metal breast plates, stick earrings and chain ear sets and cuffs.

TOUCH: As always, plush leather garments characterized McQueen’s SS24, alongside shimmering embellishments, cushioned accessories and feathery tassles. Ruffled gowns swished down the runway alongside sheer looks, jeweled catsuits and shiny patent bags.

TASTE: Punk-inspired details continue to make their way into SS24, landing in the form of slicked-back hair, chunky silver jewelry and leather. Lots and lots of leather.
