Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell fuel dating — ahem, affair — rumors as they film their upcoming rom-com, Anyone But You.
Up until the second trailer release for their upcoming film, Anyone But You, fans had no clue what to expect. The only thing they were sure of: the undeniable chemistry between the film leads, Sweeney and Powell. The only issue, however, was that Powell and his girlfriend of three years, Gigi Paris, split around the same time, with her entering an “I’m single” run on Instagram. “Never better,” she posted as a caption to the most villain-esque era video. Immediately, this sparked rumors of Hollywood’s fav trope: the forbidden onscreen romance to an offscreen affair. The moment went viral and became coined the “Rom-Com Renaissance.”

Although the unnamed Sweeney-Powell movie has yet to air, it’s already garnered fans who believe the swirling rumors are foreshadowing its success. “That + the infidelity rumors too!! like real romcoms are back,” one Twitter user said after discovering Gluck was the director. Gluck’s most notable films are Easy A and Friends with Benefits, two films that pushed sexual boundaries for our time. Other examples of boundary-pushing tropes include Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt onset of Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth in The Last Song. Despite the controversy and impending divorces, each of these moments made waves in pop culture — and still are.

With the rumors swirling, Powell and Sweeney made another red carpet appearance for the film and as suspected — they’re giving couple. According to Sweeney, the dating rumors were “really hard” as she is engaged to longtime lover Jonathan Davino. “I’ve been in a steady relationship for a really long time, which is not normal in this industry and not normal for my age. What I’ve noticed about the idea of celebrity is people really love to build someone up, and then tear them down.”
Ironically, at the time the dating rumors hit their peak, Sweeney swore that not only didn’t the rumors matter, but she “didn’t care. She even egged on the situation stating “It’s fun to give it to ‘em.”
