If we know nothing else, we know that not all of the most epic makeup moments from buzzy red carpets are captured in real time. Our proof? Cardi B‘s breathtaking, electric blue eye glam that paired well with her sculptural gown.

The rapper’s beat was cultivated by celebrity makeup artist Erika La’Pearl, who is also Cardi’s resident makeup artist. La’Pearl blessed us with a full breakdown on her Instagram of the products used to secure healthy-looking skin and all of the accompanying effects, but it was the vibrant cobalt blue from Cardi B’s dress that was applied to her eyes that gave the overall moment the “wow” factor. Now, we love a monochromatic moment, but this specific moment rang the bell for matchy match looks beyond heaven and earth. The thing about wearing colored eyeshadow and eyeliner on the eyes is that it isn’t for everyone, but Cardi demonstrates effortlessly how to add a pop of color to the eyes without doing “too much.”

In the breakdown, La’Pearl mentions the blue pigment came from Pat McGrath‘s Mothership I: Subliminal Palette. She used a “dampened liner brush” over black eyeliner to curate Cardi’s beautiful blue eye. This trick is also one pro MUA’s often use to make the color pop more. See more of Cardi B’s Grammys look ahead.
