IKEA Celebrates Its 80th Birthday With Nytillverkad Collection

IKEA is turning the big 8-0 this year and is ringing it in with the Nytillverkad collection, presenting a bold and colorful assortment of furniture and home accessories that honor the brand’s evolution.
Thoughtfully constructed silhouettes arrive in the form of the imperfectly round tables, uber-saturated stools and exciting textiles. “At IKEA, the past, the present and the future are all connected. With Nytillverkad, we are returning to the future, again. In multiple launches over the next few years, we will release a series of carefully selected products from our design archive, updated to match the bold outlook of the next generation,” Managing Director Fredrika Inger shares in an exclusive press release.
The collection is hallmarked by its unabashed embrace of a loud and playful aesthetic. Highlights from the collection include the funky LÖVET, a beautifully curved table, doused in shades of orange, blue or light green, delivering a functional art piece. Meanwhile, the DOMSTEN stool offers a sculptural seating option in a rainbow of contemporary colors. The KRYPKORNELL pattern created by Swedish textile designer Sven Fristedt nods to the brand’s history as it was originally introduced in the ’80s. The happy-go-lucky print embodies the jovial Scandinavian spirit, encasing everything from bedding and cushion covers to kitchen utensils.
“The simplicity in the design — how they look — and how they help you in your everyday life is what makes this collection so special,” Design Manager Johan Ejdemo adds.
