Get ready to spend a lot of time under the sea when watching The Little Mermaid. According to AMC, the new live-action will be two hours and 15 minutes long; it’s almost twice as long as the original, which is 84 minutes long.
While it’s not rare for live-action remakes to be longer than the original film, in this case, the forthcoming The Little Mermaid film has broken a record since it’s now become Disney‘s longest live-action remake since Alice in Wonderland in 2010.
The Little Mermaid has received lots of buzz in the last few months. While the live-action will stay true to the original story, there are several changes made to the film to reflect modern times, including lyrical updates to some songs.
The cast for the film includes Halle Bailey as the titular role, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Javier Bardem as King Triton and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.
The Little Mermaid premieres in theaters on May 26.
