Lizzo Invites Drag Queens Onstage Following Tennessee Law Restricting Drag Shows
“Thank you so much for standing up for your rights,” she said.
Lizzo is no stranger to using her voice for good and she recently did that during one of her concerts in Knoxville, Tennessee. The “Truth Hurts” singer invited drag queens onstage following the state’s law restricting drag shows.
“In light of recent and tragic events and current events, I was told by people on the internet, ‘Cancel your shows in Tennessee,’ ‘Don’t go to Tennessee,’” Lizzo said during her set. “Their reason was valid, but why would I not come to the people who need to hear this message the most?”
She continued, “Why would I not create a safe space in Tennessee where we can celebrate drag entertainers and celebrate our differences?”
The crowd applauded in response to Lizzo’s powerful speech. She then expressed her gratitude to the people in Tennessee for “standing up for your rights, protecting each other and holding the people accountable who should be protecting us.”
