Barbie Ferreira Talks Working With Havaianas and the Influence of 'Euphoria'

It’s Barbie Ferreira‘s world and we’re all just living in it. The former Euphoria star stole our hearts on the show as Kat, with her distinctive style and defiant attitude and now, Ferreira’s set her sights on her next venture. Joining forces with footwear brand Havaianas, the actor has created her very own collection of Brazilian-inspired silhouettes, drawing on her own experiences and upbringing to form the basis of their unique design.
“I was excited to create a collection inspired by my Brazilian roots and love for Brazilian art and design,” Ferreira tells Hypebae. “I came up with the color palette after visiting Bahia with friends and family. I loved the idea of the organic lines and tile-like patterns that I grew up seeing in all the shops and homes around Brazil,” she continues.
Though Ferreira’s partnership with the footwear brand might come as a surprise, the actor’s been wearing the brand since she was a child, so it’s one that felt pretty much inevitable. Alongside that, her starring role in Euphoria is one that’s helped to define and develop her personal style, something that she’s become known for since hitting our screens. “I got to bring a lot of my own life into Kat and the department heads of Euphoria were so amazing at bringing her to life,” she tells us.
As the collaboration officially releases, we caught up with Ferreira to find out more about the inspiration behind the designs, her experience on Euphoria and plans for the future.

You’ve just announced a partnership with Havaianas, what can you tell us about the inspiration behind the collection?
When I first spoke to Havaianas, I was excited to create a collection inspired by my Brazilian roots and love for Brazilian art and design. I came up with the color palette after visiting Bahia with friends and family. I found inspiration during my trip. I loved the idea of the organic lines and tile-like patterns that I grew up seeing in all the shops and homes around Brazil.
How did it feel to step into a different role for this partnership?
I’ve been so fortunate in that the brands I have worked with have been really collaborative in terms of design. With Havaianas it’s so special because I have worn this brand my whole life since I was a baby… and I got to put my signature spin on it. It’s really great to see the collective vision come to life.
The influence of Euphoria on fashion, beauty and design is undeniable. How did it feel to be part of pioneering those trends?
It’s super cool to see a show on television that we were able to put our real lives into and watch it impact pop culture and the younger generation in such an unexpected way. I got to bring a lot of my own life into Kat and the department heads of Euphoria were so amazing at bringing her to life and creating a full authentic character.
How would you say your own attitude to fashion and beauty has changed over the years?
I just do whatever makes me feel inspired and good. As I’ve gotten more experience in fashion and beauty, I’ve definitely refined my style and I feel like I’m always evolving.
How pop culture and trends when it comes to fashion?
I am absolutely inspired by pop culture, movies, art and music. I find it usually comes to me from classic movies, editorials and music that I love.
Finally, it was recently announced that you’ll be starring in a remake of the cult horror film, Faces of Death. What can fans expect to see from your character?
Doing this movie has been one of the best professional experiences of my life. I cannot wait for everyone to see what the cast and crew have cooked up for everyone. I love horror and thrillers… and now I get to play the Scream Queen of my dreams.
