Mihara Yasuhiro Pays Homage to Lo-Fi Music for SS24
An ode to teenage crimes.
For its Spring/Summer 2024 collection, Mihara Yasuhiro is going back in time, reminiscing on his teen years around the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Bringing the late ’80s and ’90s to the present day, Mihara explores larger-than-life silhouettes, painting them in an acidic color palette. Using a special application method, a wash of uber-saturated hues are sprayed across the commanding garments. Dyeing sturdier fabrics like denim, motocross jean jackets take on a distressed vibe.
Liberal tailoring renders outerwear into inventive layering pieces, draped across shoulders like capes with open sleeves, pointing to lo-fi’s simultaneous relaxed and refreshing sound. Proportions become Mihara’s playground as striped shirts bleed into incredibly long-sleeved jackets and baggy jeans, blending individual garments together seamlessly into one fluid ensemble. Soft gray velvet sweatpants are given dimension and stature with tiered ruching, while heavily zippered short-sleeved shirts boast a leisurely, water-like construction, emphasizing the collection’s effortlessly cool aesthetic.
Accessories arrive in the form of cassette tape-inspired wallet and shoulder bags, alongside a magazine-style clutch, which pays homage to illustrious titles, featuring their back numbers. Joining the carry-alls, the collection also welcomes the introduction of a new sleek and streamlined sneaker, the Charles.
