Rih and Her Baby Bump Star in Pharrell's First Louis Vuitton Campaign
Following his successful show debut at Paris Fashion Week.
Pharrell recently made his official debut as the new menswear creative director for Louis Vuitton, and mere days before it landed, the industry was treated to a sneak preview of his first campaign.
Sharing an image on Instagram, Pharrell was pictured standing in front of a pretty sizeable billboard in Paris, which featured none other than Rihanna and her baby bump. The star appeared wearing a pixelated black leather coat with only a few buttons done in order to highlight her pregnant body while carrying a few of Louis Vuitton’s most iconic silhouettes in vibrant colors. Pharrell’s latest Instagram post was shared alongside a caption that reads, “LOUIS VUITTON MEN Spring-Summer 2024.”
Now, the lauded designer has revealed the official campaign, centring around the new Speedy bag. Offering a reimagined take on a House icon, the campaign celebrates the classic Speedy — one of the first bags that Pharrell owned — landing in an updated grained calf leather and lined with lambskin. Starring Rihanna as a “symbol of human empowerment,” the campaign aims to represent “the union of two everyday icons.” Lensed by Keizō Kitajima and Martine Syms, Pharrell’s first official release draws inspiration from Canal Street in New York City, a place which acted as his first introduction to luxury.
Pharrell was appointed LV’s new creative director back in February and since then, fans have been eager to see where his vision will take the heritage brand and more importantly: whether the continued appointments of celebrity creative directors can actually do more harm than good.
In other industry news, Daniel Fletcher is stepping down from Fiorucci.
