Schiaparelli Goes for Gold With Fall 2023 Couture Collection

A gothic and whimsical masterpiece.

Daniel Roseberry weaves a gothic romantic dream for Schiaparelli’s Fall 2023 couture collection, marrying a dark, otherworldly aesthetic with a reverential sense of luxury.

Featuring a front row of famous faces, Cardi B, Tracee Ellis Ross, Amina Muaddi, Nicky Hilton, Gwendoline Christie, Xenia Adonts as well as Emily in Paris Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, joining Vogue Australia Editor-in-Chief Christine Centenera, Vogue Japan Editor-at-Large Anna Dello Russo and Vittoria Marisa Schiaparelli Berenson, the granddaughter to the House’s founder, Elsa Schiaparelli, the collection was donned by the likes of OG models Magdalena Frąckowiak and Tanya Dziahileva. Known for his surrealist perspective, Roseberry continues to blur the lines between fashion and art, pushing and transforming fabric into masterpieces.

Artful and inventive tailoring, highly ornate gold pieces and sculptural silhouettes harmonize the Fall 2023 collection, presenting a gathering of ephemeral garments. Gilded ear belts fasten together ornately decorated outerwear as golden leaves rest on a sleek collar, sitting across from its furry twin of the same snowy hue. Cathedral-like dresses evoke a holy sense of glamor, thanks to a dramatically arched neckline, protruding from the chest. Meanwhile, heavily ruched arms rival the feathered hemline, resulting in a truly breathtaking look. Abundantly draped fabric is transformed into a scarf-top-hybrid, giving way to vintage-inspired corsets and hip-accentuating skirts.

Tightly bound bodices make several appearances as black sheer corsets juxtapose wide-tailored pants with casually rolled over waistbands. Blazers with collars raise so high they almost become hoods look as if they have been plucked straight from Twilight’s Volturi, easily mimicking a vampire’s everyday attire. A weighty gold belt joins a regal oversized button, emphasizing Roseberry’s “more is more” approach. Dresses mirror mosaic glass windows, while childhood toys, like slinkies arrive on cuffs. Elsewhere, billows of fabric remind viewers of mornings spent wrapped in blankets, while colorful splatters elevate the slightly sleepy ensemble. Models are covered in body paint as giant gold fauna offer modesty, contrasting the alien-esque look.

Feast your eyes on Schiaparelli’s Fall 2023 Couture show.
